Our Story

Our founder, Mukunda Feldman, worked as a coffee roaster at Barrington Coffee for many years before opening his first shop, Northampton Coffee, on December 1st, 2003. From the beginning, his mission was to create an approachable, coffee-focused café that could serve the community in a unique and valuable way.

Over the years, our family of stores has grown. Amherst Coffee + Bar opened in 2005, Greenfield Coffee in 2010, Barrington Coffee - Fort Point in 2011, Tart Baking Co. in 2012, and Barrington Coffee - Newbury St. in 2014. Each location now embraces Mukunda’s original ambition of providing engaging service, a pleasant work environment for our staff, and great coffee.

A focus on experience and community makes what we do possible. We would not be successful without the passion of our partners, who provide our excellent coffee, fresh milk, and in-store products.

Our Partners

Barrington Coffee Roasting Co.

All of our coffee comes from Barrington Coffee, a roastery located in Lee, MA. Our friends and roaster founders, Gregg and Barth, are relentless in their pursuit of the highest quality and most outstanding single-origin coffees in the world. Barrington Coffee has a restrained roast style and focuses on highlighting each coffee’s individual characteristics. All of Barrington’s coffees are sustainably grown, ethically traded, and freshly roasted.  

Chemex

Chemex is a local company based in Chicopee, MA. We have a long-time relationship with them and their iconic brewer. Invented in 1941, the Chemex is easy to use and easy on the eyes. The Chemex is housed in the MOMA permanent design collection and it also lives on many kitchen counters! It brews a clean cup of coffee and maintains body and balanced floral notes.

Highlawn Farms

“Providing pure fresh Jersey milk since 1923.”

High Lawn Farm is committed to providing the finest dairy product available anywhere in the world. Known for its award winning herd of Jersey cows, their idyllic 1500 acre family-owned farm is located just up the road from Barrington Coffee in the heart of the Berkshires. We have partnered with High Lawn Farm for as long as we’ve been open and couldn’t ask for a richer, sweeter milk to pair with our coffee.

Alpha Dominche

Alpha Dominche is a design and technology company based in Brooklyn, NY. They maintain a distinct focus on coffee and tea brewers. Their aim is to constantly innovate and reimagine the way coffee and teas are consumed, visualized, and interacted with worldwide. We have one of their Steampunk Brewers, which produces a clean and brilliant cup of coffee, in our Northampton store.
